Origin & Rarity
- Lineage: A medium-sized Hungarian herding dog (pronounced “moodie”) dating back to the 19th century. Believed to have naturally evolved from crosses of the Puli, Pumi, and German Spitz.
- Population: Extremely rare, with only a few thousand worldwide. Primarily found in Hungary and Finland, with scarce numbers across the rest of Europe, the U.S., and Canada.
Temperament & Role
- Core Traits: Intelligent, versatile, alert, agile, and biddable. Serves as a loyal protector of property and family without being overly aggressive.
- Working Ability: A courageous, all-purpose farm dog capable of handling the most stubborn livestock (cattle and sheep). Has also gained fame as a search and rescue dog in Finland and the U.S.
- Activities: Highly active and excels in competitive dog sports like agility, obedience, and flyball.
